British Cycling chief Brian Cookson announces UCI presidency bid
British Cycling chief Brian Cookson announces his candidacy for president of world cycling's governing body, the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI).
The 61-year-old says the sport has become "disfigured by doping" as the UCI has been "mired in disputes with other international bodies such as Wada (World Anti-Doping Authority)".
Irishman Pat McQuaid has led the UCI since 2006 but his handling of the Lance Armstrong scandal has weakened his position ahead of September's election.
