World Cup 2014: 100 great World Cup moments - 23 days to go

BBC Sport counts down 100 of the greatest World Cup moments, as the 2014 tournament in Brazil draws nearer.

Today we look back to a controversial incident during the 1986 World Cup, when France striker Bruno Bellone was taken out by Brazil goalkeeper Carlos when through on goal during their quarter-final.

The foul is ignored by referee Ioan Igna, leading to BBC co-commentator Jimmy Hill calling it "an extreme mistake".

Despite the incident, France beat Brazil on penalties to reach the last four.
