Eric Cantona's kung-fu kick: How the incident was reported

BBC Sport looks back on Eric Cantona's infamous kung-fu kick on a Crystal Palace supporter in January 1995.

The Manchester United player had been sent off for kicking out at defender Richard Shaw, before responding to the crowds' taunts by attacking supporter Matthew Simmons.

After initially being sentenced to two weeks in prison, the Frenchman instead served 120 hours of community service after a successful appeal.

The Football Association banned Cantona for nine months and Blackburn Rovers subsequently won the 1994-95 Premier League, but the Frenchman went on to win two more titles with the Red Devils before retiring in 1997.

Listen to 'Cantona's Kung-Fu Kick', a BBC Radio 5 live Sport special from 19:30 GMT on Thursday, 22 January.
