The phone call took place in a special gold phone box on the red carpet at 2014 Sports Personality of the Year in Glasgow.

Throughout the evening, sports stars and members of the public from across the UK showed their gratitude to the unsung heroes at local sports clubs as part of the Big Thank you weekend.
