McIlroy believes Paul McGinley would be the ideal choice to captain Europe at the 2014 Ryder Cup at Gleneagles, with Clarke assuming the role on American soil in 2016.

Westwood added that Clarke has "all the credentials" for the job and would be "a great motivator".
