Rory McIlroy renews call for Open at Royal Portrush

Rory McIlroy believes the limited size of the US Open site at Merion shows that the Open can he held at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland.

The world number two and fellow NI major winners Graeme McDowell and Darren Clarke have led calls for Royal Portrush, which is three times bigger than the Merion site, to host the Open for the first time since 1951.

Meanwhile, McDowell is delighted that the Irish Open is set to return to Portrush as early as 2015.
