Michael Hoey feels ready to contend after good start at Irish Open

Michael Hoey is enjoying being in contention at the Irish Open after shooting an opening round of 67 at Carton House.

The 34-year-old had an impressive start to the tournament and lies five under par, one shot behind overnight leader Oscar Floren of Sweden.

Hoey said he felt comfortable playing in front of a big crowd for only the second time this season and feels he is in a good position to contend for the title.
