The world number one golfer also saw the funny side when the song Sweet Caroline was played over the public address system at the Kingspan Stadium in Belfast.
The Northern Irishman broke off his engagement with tennis player Caroline Wozniacki in May 2014.
McIlroy, a big Ulster supporter, was doing an interview with BBC Sport when spectators began singing along as the Neil Diamond song came over the public address system.
