Rory McIlroy overjoyed by Irish Open success at K Club
Rory McIlroy fulfilled a lifelong ambition by winning his home tournament, the Irish Open, for the first time at the K Club.
With the aid of stunning second shots at the 16th and 18th holes, the four-time major winner carded a birdie and an eagle to emerge the victor by three shots over Russell Knox and Bradley Dredge.
"This is a tournament I've grown up watching as a kid, playing in as an amateur and dreaming about since I first held a club," the world number three said.
"To win it in the fashion I did and to win it as host, it means an awful lot."
