McIlroy defends Rio comments after carding 69 in Open

Rory McIlroy stands by his controversial views on golf at the Olympics as he reflects on a two-under-par 69 in the first round of the Open.

The world number four pulled out of the Rio Games because of the Zika virus and went on to state that golf will not be one of the sports that "matter" in the Olympics.

However, McIlroy added that he should have elaborated more on his comments which included saying he didn't get into golf to try to grow the game.
