President Clinton's Belfast visit scuppered previous Giants game

One Direction are not the first big names to cause the postponement of a Belfast Giants game as then US President Bill Clinton's visit to the city in 2000 led to a previous match being rescheduled.

Friday's scheduled Elite League game between the Giants and Sheffield Steelers has been postponed to allow the boy band to reschedule the concert that they had to call off on Tuesday because of singer Liam Payne's illness.

The President's visit in 2000 led to the Giants's game against the Newcastle Jesters being put back and Mr Clinton thanked the local ice hockey side during his speech in the then Oydssey Arena.
