Chloe Magee beaten in Irish Open singles final

Donegal woman Chloe Magee was edged out in the women's singles final at the Irish Open in Dublin.

Top seed Magee lost a tight opening set 23-21 against Denmark's Line Kjaersfeldt and while she won the second set 21-18, the Dane took the decisive third set 21-18.

Magee had beaten Spain's Beatriz Corrales 21-18, 21-23, 21-12 in Saturday's semi-final in Baldoyle.

Irish men's number one Scott Evans did win the men's singles title.

Evans defeated France's Lucas Corvee 21-19 21-18 to take his first tour title.

Dubliner Evans had defeated another Frenchman Lucas Claerbout in the semi-finals.

It was an emotional win for Evans, a double Olympian, who made the final in 2008 and has reached six other European circuit finals without ever taking a win.

"I remember saying to my best friend Rob when I was 12 or 13 that if I was going to win only one tournament in my career, I'd want it to be the Irish Open," said Evans.

In the women's final, Magee fought back from 18-10 down to be one point from landing the first set but Kjaersfeldt fought back to take the set 23-21.

Magee played with more drive in the second set, winning 21-18, but her rival always had the edge in the tie-breaker, winning 21-18 and taking her first singles title at this level.
