Jersey's Elizabeth Cann retires at English championships

Jersey's Elizabeth Cann has failed to defend her English national badminton title after being forced to retire with a back injury in the quarter-finals.

Cann, 33, who is a six-time English champion and the 2010 Commonwealth Games bronze-medallist,, external led Fontaine Chapman 10-4 when she was hurt.

The seventh seed came back to win the first game 23-21 and was 15-9 up in the second when Cann pulled out.

Top-seed Cann had not dropped a game in her previous two matches.
