Badminton: Scots make semi-finals in home Grand Prix

Kirsty Gilmour eased into the semi-finals at the Scottish Open Grand Prix with a 21-10, 21-9 win against Bulgaria's Linda Zetchiri.

There was more home success as Imogen Bankier and Robert Blair also reached the last four in the mixed doubles.

They beat Poland's Robert Mateusiak and Agnieska Wojtowska 21-14, 21-19.

Bankier and Blair also progressed in the women's and men's doubles, with Petya Nedelcheva and Tan Bin Shen, respectively.

Bankier and her Bulgarian partner beat He Tian Tang and Renuga Veeran 21-18, 21-14, while Blair and his Malaysian team-mate saw off Jacco Arends and Jele Maas 21-15, 21-8, 21-18.

Gilmour lost her doubles contest but the 20-year-old from Bothwell was pleased with her day's work at the Emirates Arena in Glasgow.

"This arena is fantastic. It's well worth the Grand Prix status," she said.

"We are using this as a dress rehearsal for the Commonwealth Games next year, which is going to be a great experience.

"This has been a really good eight or nine weeks for me. I enjoy playing at home, sleeping in my own bed, eating in my own house rather than restaurants.

"It's really nice being at home. The chance for your friends and family to come and watch makes a difference. You don't have to text them, you can just go and speak to them."

Gilmour, the London Grand Prix runner-up to Carolina Marin, will meet the Spaniard's team-mate and fourth seed Beatriz Corrales.

Marin, meanwhile, overcame Ireland's Chloe Magee then toppled Czech number one Kristina Gavnholt to set up a last four meeting with Sandra-Maria Jensen of Denmark.

In the men's singles, Scotland's highest ranked player Kieran Merrilees lost 21-15, 21-18, to Malaysian Kwong Beng Chan.

Henri Hurskainen takes on Indonesian eighth seed Andre Kurniawan Tedjono in the semi-finals while top seed and 2006 champion Ville Lang will meet Frenchman Brice Leverdez.
