The Cleveland Indians set an American League record of 21 consecutive victories with a 5-3 win over the Detroit Tigers.

Victory took Cleveland past the mark set by Oakland Athletics in 2002, and another would surpass the National League record set by the Chicago Cubs in 1935.

New York Giants's 26-match unbeaten run in 1916 included a tie.

"It's definitely fun to show up at the ballpark now," said pitcher Cody Allen.

The Indians, who have outscored their opponents 134-32 during the streak, lost the decisive seventh game of last year's World Series in extra innings.
