The only slight consolation for the Yankees today might be what's happening in Toronto.

The Blue Jays have just given up five runs in the first extra inning at home to the Kansas City Royals who now lead 7-2.

At least it looks like the Yankees are not falling further behind the American League East leaders.

  7. Yankees escape further damagepublished at 21:22 British Summer Time 3 August

The Yankees are in trouble in the bottom of the eighth but Xavier Edwards hits into a double play for Jazz Chisholm Jr. before Graham Pauley is left stranded at third as Kyle Stowers is struck out.

Last chance though for the Yankees in Miami!

They are close now to five wins in a row.

  9. Marlins add insurance run with Marsee triplepublished at 20:55 British Summer Time 3 August

After Otto Lopez steals second base, Jakob Marsee launches a big fly ball to centre field.

Trent Grisham gets a glove to it for the Yankees but can't secure the catch and Marsee rushes to third to bring home the run with an RBI triple.

Marsee only made his debut on Friday. He's enjoying a very special weekend.

"Whether it is glory, controversy, facial expressions or his plays, there is always something he is involved in."

Out of nowhere the Yankees may just be back in this.

    The Marlins lead 6-3.

  13. Cabrera cruises through the sixthpublished at 20:26 British Summer Time 3 August

That's it for Luis Gil. He was expected to last about 80 pitches on his return from injury and he got to 77.

The Marlins have men on first and second base with just one out for new pitcher Brent Headrick.

  20. Cabrera warming to the taskpublished at 19:48 British Summer Time 3 August

Edward Cabrera responds with back-to-back strikeouts of his own for the Marlins.

He's reacted well to the early setback of conceding a home run.

The Yankees need something to get themselves going again.
