Luis Gil records back-to-back strikeouts to finish the third inning.

Both pitchers have looked vulnerable at times so far. How long will it be before we see the managers look to their bullpens?

More bad news for Yankees fans.

The Red Sox have swept the Houston Astros with a 6-1 victory at Fenway Park this afternoon.

That's five wins in a row for the Red Sox now and whatever happens in Miami they are staying above the Yankees in the American League East.

  3. Stowers brings home third run of the inningpublished at 19:25 British Summer Time 3 August

Kyle Stowers sacrifice fly ball brings home Troy Johnston and the Marlins have three runs in the inning.

Luis Gil manages to finally get out of trouble, but the rustiness Yankees fans were fearing from last year's AL Rookie of the Year was definitely on show there.

Another base hit for the Marlins and now they lead 2-1.

Xavier Edwards squeezes a ball through centre field to score Graham Pauley.

    Felix White

"The Yankees have been stuttering at the moment, against all the odds.

Early in this game you can almost sense that tension in the body language of their manager Aaron Boone."

  7. Gil climbs through Marlins in first inningpublished at 19:07 British Summer Time 3 August

A nerve-settling start for Luis Gil on his season debut.

He sees off the top of the Marlins order giving up just one walk.

It's double Dominican in terms of the pitchers in Miami as Edward Cabrera starts things off the for the Marlins.

Cabrera enjoyed a strong July and has given away more than two runs only twice in his last 11 starts.

Those defeats in Miami combined with the Boston Red Sox winning four games in a row mean the Yankees are down to third in the American League East.

The gap to the Toronto Blue Jays at the top of the division is now 4.5 games...and growing.

Welcome to our live coverage of New York Yankees v Miami Marlins!

The Marlins are aiming for a series sweep this afternoon after recording two wins over the Yankees already this weekend.

Their 13-12 walk-off victory on Friday night marked the first time the Yankees have lost an away game while scoring 12 runs since 1940.

The Marlins backed up that win with a more sedate 2-0 victory on Saturday.

On Thursday the MLB Trade Deadline – the equivalent of English football’s Transfer Deadline Day – offered a final chance for players to be traded between teams during the season.

One of the biggest and most surprising deals saw Puerto Rican Shortstop Carlos Correa leave the Minnesota Twins and return to the Houston Astros, where he became a World Series champion in 2017.

Right-handed pitcher Mason Miller – who threw the fastest pitch of the year at 104.1 mph just a week ago – left the Athletics to join the San Diego Padres, with the Athletics picking up big prospect Leo De Vries in return.

Meanwhile the Philadelphia Phillies saw through a deal for Twins relief pitcher Jhoan Duran, the Seattle Mariners secured home run king Eugenio Suarez from the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Toronto Blue Jays made an agreement with the Cleveland Guardians for starting pitcher Shane Bieber.

Lastly, we finally have an answer for Craig in Kirkcaldy who sent a question to the Ask Me Anything team: “will the Red Sox trade Jarren Duran?”

After months of speculation about the future of the Red Sox star, nothing happened at the Trade Deadline and he is staying in Boston.
