Newcastle Eagles secured the British Basketball League championship for the sixth time in nine years with a 106-58 victory at Surrey United.

Malik Cooke and Paul Gause led the scoring for the Eagles with 23 points apiece, while Darius Defoe added 19.

Surrey never recovered from conceding 20 unanswered points in the second quarter to trail 55-24 at half-time.

The Eagles will be top seeds for the BBL play-offs but do not yet know their first-round opponents.

"There's a big difference in getting to the line and crossing it," said player-coach Fab Flournoy. "Now we've done it."
