Jamie Chestney became the first seed to fall at the Scottish International Open when he lost to fellow Englishman Brett Arkley in the opening round.

The 11th seed lost 9-4 1-11 2-0 to the qualifier in Livingston.

Last year's losing finalist, Simon Skelton, also suffered an early exit, beaten by fellow Englishman Mark Dawes, the world number four, 9-4 11-6.

Seeds Mervyn King, Jason Greenslade, Mike Stepney and Wayne Willgress all had narrow escapes against qualifiers.

Welshman Jason Greenslade, the world number nine, edged Englishman Lloyd Sabatini 3-8 8-2 2-1.

Belfast qualifier Matthew Crawford hit the jack with his final bowl, but an unlucky rebound handed victory to English world number 14 King 9-4 4-10 2-1.

Englishman Willgress, the number five seed, edged Scottish-born James Rippey 9-4 6-11 2-0, while Scottish 15th seed Stepney sneaked past Welsh qualifier Ross Owen 6-9 10-8 2-0.

Defending champion Stewart Anderson was given a tough test in his opening set by New Zealand's Davey Mota, who at 16 is the youngest-ever player to compete in the World Bowls Tour event.

The teenager dropped a double on the last end to lose the opening set 8-6, but experience told in the second, won 11-2 by the Scot with two ends to spare.

Reigning world indoor singles champion Jamie Walker eased through in straight sets against Hong Kong's Eric Lam 12-4 9-3, while the man he defeated in that final, Scotland's Jason Banks, swept aside Canadian Dylan Jacobs 16-0 13-0.

World number one Paul Foster defeated Australian Connor Biddle 10-3 10-7.

Three other former world champions - Scotland's David Gourlay and England's Greg Harlow and Nick Brett - also all qualified for the last 16.

The Scottish International Open is being streamed live daily on the BBC Sport website.
