Jamie Conlan stops Adrian Dimas Garzon in fourth round

Jamie Conlan has stopped nine of his 15 opponents in his professional career

Belfast super-flyweight Jamie Conlan secured a fourth-round stoppage over Argentinean Adrian Dimas Garzon at the National Stadium, Dublin, on Saturday.

The comfortable win makes it 15 wins from 15 professional contests for the 29-year-old, who is now set to fight former world champion Paul Butler.

Garzon, 39, had 18 losses on his record ahead of the eight-round contest, and never proved a serious threat.

Conlan had defeated Mexican Junior Granados at the same venue in July.

Granados proved a much tougher proposition on that occasion as Conlan, the WBO Inter-continental and European champion, was forced to climb off the canvas twice before prevailing on points.

Conlan was in control throughout against Garzon, attacking his opponent with a variety of head and body shots throughout.

The referee stopped the fight midway through the fourth round after Garzon failed to defend himself after sustaining a barrage of punches from the Belfast man.

Garzon had been sent to the canvas by a right hook seconds previously.

It was revealed after the fight that Conlan had torn the rotator cuff on his left shoulder in the run up to the contest but it didn't seem to hamper him as he jabbed confidently throughout.

Conlan, older brother of amateur world champion Michael, retained his WBO Inter-Continental super flyweight title, and will now meet Englishman Butler, who was at ringside, in a world title eliminator.
