Sean Dyche is the "right man at the right time" for Nottingham Forest, according to former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson.

Ex-Everton manager Dyche has been appointed as Forest's third manager this season after replacing Ange Postecoglou.

He takes over after Postecoglou lasted just 39 days in the job, himself having replaced Nuno Espirito Santo on 9 September.

Forest are 18th in the Premier League and winless since the opening day of the season, with Dyche facing the media on Wednesday before Thursday's Europa League visit of Porto.

"It's probably the right man at the right time. For both, it's the right fit for him and I think for Forest," said Robinson, who played at Burnley for Dyche before retiring in 2017.

"He has an excellent ability to be the boss but also have the dressing room on side, to be one of the lads but also have that respect and the time where you know he's the boss.

"His ability to integrate himself in the dressing room but, at the same time, keep his distance is great."

  3. 'We haven't had a good feeling around here last few weeks'published at 15:38 BST 22 October

Nottingham Forest v Porto (Thurs, 20:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest captain Ryan Yates speaking before the game against Porto: "It's our responsibility as players. We have to take responsibility more than anyone. We haven't been good enough. You can't pinpoint on an individual, but we have a new opportunity now and we are really excited to get off to a good start tomorrow night.

"A massive strength of this club is getting that connection between the fans, the players and the manager. Let's be honest, we haven't had a good feeling around here in the last few weeks. It's not been that lively but the new manager and his coaching staff have brought a new sense of life and energy."

More on Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche on time out from work: "You work really hard in this job. Any manager. It's really tough at any level and especially in the Premier League.

"It's not like you lack an energy or anything but when you get a break, you can take a breath and do some silly things you want to do and spend some time doing life things."

  5. 'There's huge work to be done here'published at 15:34 BST 22 October

More on Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche: "There's a small part of the fanbase who thinks we are here in the Premier League now. But there's another part who thinks this is not a given. I don't believe the Forest fanbase thinks it's a given.

"The start of the season maybe reminded the fans that we couldn't keep doing that without reinforcing. There's been huge changes at this club. You can question the owner currently which a few have. But at the end of the day, there's been a lot of good, good feeling, good things around the area and the city. There's a bigger picture to it.

"He wants to stabilise things. But there's huge work to be done and he is aware of it. It's the job of me, my staff and the players to do it."

  6. 'This is bigger than anything in my career'published at 15:30 BST 22 October

Nottingham Forest v Porto (Thurs, 20:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche on his targets at the club: "It's trying to be successful. I have always been successful. But the first success you can be is be in the Premier League.

"I have managed 300-odd games in the Premier League. You can't be lucky for all the 330 games. You got to know the way around it. And if you know it, it's about how far you can take it.

"I have had spells in my career where we had very, very strong spells. To take a small club like Burnley and get to Europe was incredible. But it's all past me now.

"This is Nottingham Forest. This is bigger than all of that.

"The staff, the team, the ownership - they are all in an awkward place for the first time in a number of seasons. It's our job to find a way back from that. The first point of call is can we get this time to remember very quickly how it was finding wins and can we add our own imprint on that. That's the challenge now.

"Managers have become big in the Premier League. It just so happened that a fellow named Pep Guardiola came into the Premier League followed by Jurgen Klopp. And rightly so, two legends of the game.

"It's been a big change. But I want to see people talking about the team. I just want them to talk about Forest being successful."

  8. 'Winning doesn't cure everything - but it helps'published at 15:23 BST 22 October

Nottingham Forest v Porto (Thurs, 20:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche on squad suiting his style: "I've learnt about the players, obviously.

"There's a few I've known from the past couple of seasons, a few new signings. It's different when you're watching a game analytically to actually working with players.

"Some players are better than you thought, often, and the other way round. It can be that way when you're working up close and personal.

"What we have noticed is the quality, there is a good spirit amongst them, it's just maybe been pushed down a bit by the noise.

"They haven't won games. Winning doesn't cure everything but it goes a long way to making that feel-good factor.

"What we've got to do is find the balance of the framework they've had that worked so well but then the freedom to go and attack and score goals. That's a difficult balance to find."

  9. 'Forest badge is bigger than me'published at 15:20 BST 22 October

Nottingham Forest v Porto (Thurs, 20:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche on whether this opportunity is different to others he has had: "I have zero interest in myself at this football club. I have full interest in the club moving forward. To try to get it back to winning ways. It's no interest to me because I've been here long enough.

"I have got fans and people who are not. I've got hater. I have got no problem with it. This badge is bigger than me. That's for sure. I am just doing my bit to correct the current situation. If we can move it forward in style, that would be brilliant."

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche on response of the players: "They've had a lot on. Whatever people think of players, they still feel it.

"They feel the change, the fact things haven't gone as well they'd like or the club would like.

"So we've just trying to break it a bit, make them realise we're all human, we're in it together and get a good atmosphere.

"I can assure you that after the bit you filmed, there was a lot of serious work done, a tactical overview. But we are cramming it because we've got two days to cram it all in before the first game then the next game.

"The first few weeks are going to be that way but that's often how it is."

  11. 'Marinakis is aware of the challenges'published at 15:14 BST 22 October

Nottingham Forest v Porto (Thurs, 20:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche on club owner Evangelos Marinakis:"I spoke to him and his people about the prospects of it. Once the decision was made with the outgoing manager, I spoke to him.

"He spoke very openly about the challenges. He is aware of it. He keeps up with the stats and facts. He is aware it was a challenging run at the end of last season. That's why they tried to add to it to try to keep moving froward.

"It was a good conversation. I wouldn't certainty been here if it was a bad conversation"

  12. 'Players' careers can change very quickly'published at 15:12 BST 22 October

Nottingham Forest v Porto (Thurs, 20:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche on keeping the squad happy: "Football players' careers can change very, very quickly.

"They can change on someone else's misfortune - it can be on someone getting injured or suspended. They have to be ready at any time.

"Keeping them motivated to stay fit and well and be ready for the challenge if it comes their way is always part of the challenge.

"But treating people with respect and honesty has always swerved me well in my career and I'll certainly be doing that here."

New Nottingham Forest boss Sean Dyche wants his under-performing stars to reconnect with disillusioned supporters.

The 54-year-old became Forest's third manager in six weeks when he replaced Ange Postecoglou on Tuesday.

Postecoglou was dismissed 39 days after he came in for the sacked Nuno Espirito Santo on 9 September.

Former Tottenham boss Postecoglou struggled to win over supporters, who chanted he would be "sacked in the morning" during a 3-2 Europa League defeat by Midtjylland last month.

Dyche came through the Forest academy in the 1980s, although he never made a first-team appearance, and is eager to unify the City Ground.

"We want to get back on the front foot, in old football terminology, and hopefully give the crowd something to cheer about and reconnect," Dyche told BBC Radio Nottingham.

"The Forest fans in my experience have been very fair down the years and I don't think it's far away from the team reconnecting. The first thing is performances, get them back on that winning edge they have shown."

  14. 'Fans have built an atmosphere'published at 15:08 BST 22 October

Nottingham Forest v Porto (Thurs, 20:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche on the fans: "The fans have been amazing the last few years.

"I've been here as an opposing manager, as a supporter and they've always been very kind to me here.

"They've built an atmosphere here and that's important. It's made it a really tough place to come.

"Add that noise, that feeling, that'll add a bit more tingle in me but I'm aware there's a job to be done. That's what I've really focused on - taking the club forward and giving the fans more of the good stuff they've had recently."

  15. 'Long ball, short ball? It just got to be effective'published at 15:05 BST 22 October

Nottingham Forest v Porto (Thurs, 20:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

More from Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche on playing style: "The players are aware of it. I took a lot of feedback from the players and not just me. They are very proud of what they did last season. That is no problem for me because I agree with them. Now can we mould it slightly differently but keep that winning mentality?

"It's going to be a work in progress, but they got it in them and they have already shown it. We need to slightly twist and turn it to find a balance where it is effective.

"Long ball, short ball? You just got to play effective football. That will never go out of fashion. I have seen enough fashionistas come in and out of this division during the time I have been a Premier League manager. You got to win the games - its simple as that."

  16. Dyche is a 'steadier of a ship'published at 15:02 BST 22 October

    Sean DycheImage source, Getty Images

Former Spurs and Crystal Palace winger Andros Townsend on new Nottingham Forest head coach Sean Dyche on the Football Daily podcast: "I think he will go back to basics. He is a steadier of a ship. Everton brought him in when it was unsteady times, Everton were almost getting relegated and there were problems upstairs, and he just steadied everything. He's experienced, he didn't really get too bothered about what was going on off the pitch. He knows what he's doing. He knows what his qualities are as a manager, as a man and motivator.

"Nottingham Forest had Nuno [Espirito Santo], who sort of steadied the ship, they, for one reason or another, decided to change and get [Ange] Postecoglou, they wanted to go for that attacking manager, and it didn't work. After eight games, I feel like they've gone backwards and need to steady the ship again. Sean Dyche is a fantastic manager, and I'm sure he'll do well for Nottingham Forest."

Former Brighton striker Glenn Murray added: "I think this is a real opportunity for Dyche. He's always been a bit of a consolidation manager, a safe manager, a manager that'll keep you in the Premier League. And I feel as though this Nottingham Forest squad has got a lot of ability. It can do the hard yards that Sean will want them to do, but also it's got a bit of flair.

"He'll get the fans back on board, which is extremely important in Nottingham, and something that Nuno harnessed really well. This squad needs a little bit of confidence. And obviously he's got some European experience with Burnley. This could be a really big job for Sean Dyche to shake that tag of what he currently is."

  17. 'We have to get back to winning'published at 15:01 BST 22 October

Nottingham Forest v Porto (Thurs, 20:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche on how his side will play: "You have seen this season the way stats have changed. I think it's the first time in 10 years that there have been more longer balls or long passes.

"Of course, when other teams do it, it's long passes. When I've done it in the past, it's been long balls. We all know that. I joke about it but you know it's real.

"We want to play effectively. Because we've got to get back to winning. There is no point in me telling you we are going to play like Spain when they won the World Cup. It's about how many different styles we can find.

"Can we build on a style that we find and use the skill levels of the players slightly differently? We will see. But there has to be a base to work from."

  19. 'We need to reignite players' will and desire'published at 14:58 BST 22 October

Nottingham Forest v Porto (Thurs, 20:00 BST)

    Nottingham Forest

Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche: "We need to get back to winnings ways.

"I won't bore people with the stats but they weren't winning at the end of last season particularly. Maybe run out of steam, it was a big season.

"It hasn't been a great start to this season, we understand that so there were a few signs about what was needed and the changes.

"But I think there is a very good group here, a talented group. Last season they showed the will and desire to be a good group - now we've got to reignite that and make sure it's intact gong forward."
