Unbeaten Liam Davies is still on course for his dream undisputed world super-bantamweight title shot after brutally stopping Mexico's Erik Robles Ayala in round two in Birmingham.

The 27-year-old European champion from Telford floored Robles with an uppercut and left hook combination a minute from the end of the second round.

Davies then finished it off to stretch his record to 16 wins in 16 fights.

"This is the start of a massive 2024 for me," he told BBC Radio Shropshire.

His main challenge remains a potential showdown with Japan's undisputed world champion Naoya Inoue, who holds all four of the major boxing governing bodies' belts - the WBA, WBC, IBF and WBO.

Davies' Saturday night fight with Robles at Resorts World Arena was for the IBO title, and he could not have performed better in front of promoter Frank Warren as he continues to knock at the door.

"I'm a small boy from Telford," said Davies. "And I don't think I was one of his favourites.

"I'm becoming a problem to him. But all of that's out of my hands for now.

"I didn't come in with much, I didn't have much backing and I started on smaller shows.

"But I'm going to continue to work hard and chase bigger challenges and bigger titles - and make more memories for the people I love the most.

"I said to Frank Warren after: 'Send me to Saudi. Let's get some of that oil money. I deserve some'."
