In what looks to be an epic undercard, Belfast's Anto Cacace is set to face former two-time world champion Josh Warrington.

Cacace, who beat Joe Cordina to claim his first world title in May, will renew Belfast-Leeds hostilities with the man who beat Northern Ireland's former two-weight world champion Carl Frampton in December 2018.

"I'm buzzing, it's so exciting. I'm looking forward to everything now," Cacace told BBC Sport NI.

"I feel like winning that world title has put a new lease of life into me."

  2. Boxing's power strugglepublished at 15:23 British Summer Time 26 June

As exciting as an all-British bout for the IBF heavyweight title between Anthony Joshua and Daniel Dubois is, does anyone else feel a bit sorry for Oleksandr Usyk?

Just five weeks after defeating Tyson Fury and becoming heavyweight boxing's first undisputed heavyweight champion in nearly 25 years, he's had to give up the IBF belt.

It's all to do with boxing sanctioning bodies, business and politics.

BBC Radio 5 Live boxing analyst Steve Bunce explains: "Sanctioning bodies are a business. They want to make a profit and it has been a lean period for them.

"Over 60 years, 2023 was only the second year when there was only one heavyweight world title fight. That’s a bad time for the sanctioning bodies.

"They’ll make more money in the short-term by sanctioning Dubois v Anthony Joshua in September rather than being forced to wait until December for Usyk’s rematch against Fury."

There's a period not so long ago when a fight between Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua may never have happened, in part due to politics between rival boxing promotors.

Dubois is promoted by Queensberry's Frank Warren, with Joshua working with Matchroom's Eddie Hearn.

The pair were sworn enemies until super rich organisers in Saudi Arabia brought them together last year, where they buried the hatchet.

Boxing has been on a roll ever since.

  5. All roads lead to Usyk?published at 15:10 British Summer Time 26 June

Both Daniel Dubois and Anthony Joshua have been on the comeback trail since defeats by Oleksandr Usyk.

Joshua, 34, was beaten by the Ukrainian in 2021 and 2022, but has since embarked on a four-fight win streak.

His last victory saw an emphatic knockout of former UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou in March.

Dubois, 26, meanwhile, was stopped by Usyk in 2023 but has since beaten Jarrell Miller and Filip Hrgovic earlier this month.

Does a win for either fighter set up another future clash with Usyk for the undisputed title, if the Ukrainian wins the rematch with Tyson Fury?

Boxing is rarely that simple but it's an interesting thought.

It's just five weeks since Oleksandr Usyk beat Tyson Fury to become the first undisputed heavyweight champion in almost 25 years.

The landscape of heavyweight boxing appeared clear at the time, with the pair surely set to rematch for the belts at some point in the future, but the IBF had other ideas.

According to their rules, Ukraine's Usyk would have to face mandatory challenger Daniel Dubois next - who beat Filip Hrgovic earlier this month for the interim belt - or face being stripped.

Usyk asked the IBF to reconsider their stance, before eventually vacating his championship on Tuesday, offering the belt as a "present" to Dubois and Anthony Joshua.

Dubois is likely to be upgraded to IBF champion with the 26-year-old set to make the first defence of his title against former champion Joshua.
