Usyk cements legacy with points win over Fury

  1. Round onepublished at 22:42 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December

    Usyk v Fury 2

Fury lands a looping right and it sends Usyk stumbling off balance after landing on his ear.

The Briton has taken the centre of the ring and is trying to set the tempo he wants from the outset.

Usyk's biggest test, as it was back in May, is trying to get beyond that reach and he's struggling to do that at the moment.

A dip of the head midway through the round and Usyk lands to the body. Usyk then leads with a right but is caught on the way in.

Fury sends a few warnings with his uppercut but they fall short.

This is a long introduction for two fighters who really don't need an introduction.

Chants of "Fury, Fury, Fury" and "Usyk, Usyk, Usyk" battle with each other.

The two fighters meet in the middle and give each other the eyes.

    We're about to get going.

Oleksandr Usyk still has that perfect record intact and an impressive collection of belts being held up behind him.

There are quite a few Ukraine flags in the crowd and a pretty big roar as his name is announced.

Michael Buffer finally gets us on to the two fighters' respective records and for the first time in his career, Tyson Fury has a defeat announced on his.

Michael Buffer is taking us through all his final bits and pieces as Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk are shadow boxing in opposite corners of the ring.

They both weighed in fully clothed yesterday and are yet to take their T-shirts off in the ring either.

    I'm starting to get suspicious.

Asking if Usyk is the best heavyweight you need to remember Dubois had him beat and he faked a low blow to avoid the count & mentally affect Dubois. He’s a great technician and master of the game, but that act has tainted it for me.

Victory for Tyson Fury tonight will secure him entry into a very elite club - becoming a three-time heavyweight champion.

Fellow Briton Lennox Lewis achieved that feat, alongside Muhammad Ali and Evander Holyfield.

"It's a very exclusive club. Only the strong survive," Lewis said of Fury's chances.

"I set records for people to make history to come back and beat. Tyson Fury is trying to make history but he's got a lot work to do. He's going to be in the battlefield."

We've been asking you to vote on who wins tonight's heavyweight world title contest and as you can see above, Oleksandr Usyk is heavily fancied to win again.

    Last quick poll.

Thumbs up for Usyk or thumbs down for Fury.

  12. Predictions - 'Hard task to rip the belts away from Usyk'published at 22:31 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December

    Usyk v Fury 2

Heavyweight Joseph Parker: "It's going to be Tyson to win. The reason I say that is his approach is very different and he wants to do damage. I believe he is going to do damage and get the victory."

Retired multiple-weight world champion Carl Frampton: "I think Fury wins the fight. If he fights like a heavyweight, like the man four stone heavier and goes forward and man-handles him, I think Fury wins."

British heavyweight champion Fabio Wardley: "As a boxer and as a person, Fury is capable of making the adjustments to beat Usyk but do I think he will actually be able to and whether the ambition is still there? Without being offensive, it may be lacking a little. With Usyk, he is so stoic and stalwart and 100% focused on getting the job done. I think it will be a hard task to rip the belts away from him."

Apologies for not knowing that John and I should extend that to Thomas Pridgen himself too.

A quick internet search tells me he was the drummer for The Mars Volta back in the day - great band.

I'm sure he was just restricted by song choice tonight!

The drummer was Thomas Pridgen, an absolute monster behind the kit and a great surprise to see on the event!

Over to WBA (Super), WBO and WBC champion Oleksandr Usyk.

He never lets us down with his outfit and it's another top draw effort.

Usyk looks warrior-like with his robe as he strides purposefully down the ramp and quickly into the ring where he crouches in the corner to say a prayer.

Fury looks like he's in the zone now. No doubt he's been thinking about this. He wanted to add a bit of humour and he thinks he looks up for it.

He's looking loose and ready to go.

I was always a big believer in trying to enjoy the moment of thousands of people shouting your name. I don't believe there's a high like it and feeling like a rockstar and preparing to go to battle.

He's dressed as father Christmas (beard still intact) and has delivered a classic seasonal song - Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas Is You'.
