Usyk cements legacy with points win over Fury

Lennox Lewis is siding with Tyson Fury to win tonight's rematch but only if he takes it seriously and avoids mucking around like he did at times in the first contest.

"Tyson Fury wins this because he is the bigger man. He will use his jab and needs to throw more punches than the first fight. He can't muck around and needs to be totally serious," Lewis told BBC Sport.

"Usyk is good at making you pay. He moves well and that movement is to make you miss and then make you pay.

"It's not easy to move around the ring for 12 rounds and I think it will come down to who seizes the moment, who has the best stamina and who punches the most accurate."

  2. McKean a step-up for Itaumapublished at 21:42 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December

Demsey McKean is a real step-up fight for Briton Moses Itauma.

The Australian has only lost once, in an IBF world-title eliminator against Filip Hrgovic last year. He has an opportunity to tear up the script and show he belongs at the top level.

  3. Predictions - 'Usyk will win'published at 21:42 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December

    Usyk v Fury 2

Heavyweight Frazer Clarke: "Fury can make amends and you can never doubt him, but I do think Usyk will win."

Light-welterweight Jack Catterall: "We’ve seen a lot of good early rounds from Fury, so it’ll be interesting to see if he has made adjustments and whether they can be enough against Usyk, who can adapt to anything. As a British fighter I want Fury to win, but my head says it won’t be enough against a fighter like Usyk."

American fighter Regis Prograis: "I picked Fury the first time, I’ll pick Fury again. Usyk is a beast, you can put him up there as one of the best ever, he’s hot, he has beaten everyone – AJ twice, Fury, Danny Dubois. But I have got to go with the big man."

For me Dubois is currently top Heavyweight, only a high waist band stopped him from beating Usyk with what was considered a low blowbut most agreed it was not.

Usyk has been a great champion at Heavyweight and his 6 fights have been epic. If he wins tonight, which I expect him to do, he will be an all time great. He is made of granite.

  5. Is Itauma the full package?published at 21:40 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December

    Kal Sajad
BBC Sport at Kingdom Arena, Riyadh

There is so much excitement surrounding Moses Itauma. Hailing from Chatham in Kent, the 19-year-old is considered Britain's next heavyweight hope. Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are nearing the end. At 27, IBF world champion Daniel Dubois still has years in him, but he feels like he's been around forever.

At the age of 16, Itauma was knocking grown men out in sparring. With eight knockouts in 10 pro fights, he has done the business in the ring. Outside of it, he's level headed, aspirational and, with age, is starting to become a good talker.

He may just be the full package.

We brought you the express version of Thursday's 11 minute and 20 second face off earlier but there was no need to fast forward Friday's meeting between the pair.

Tyson Fury was keen to get off stage and after just seven seconds and a bit of shadow boxing, he made his exit.

  9. How boxers deal with a first defeatpublished at 21:32 Greenwich Mean Time 21 December

    Richie Woodhall
    Retired super-middleweight (26-3)

All boxers are scared of losing and every fighter thinks they're better than what they are. So when you stay undefeated you are in a situation where you don't think it will end. Then when that time comes, it can be a big shock to the system.

For me, the best way to deal with it was to get back in the ring as soon as I could. I knew I was good enough to win a world title so I was training after an operation on my elbow and my mind was reset. Two fights later, became world champion.

Usyk is best Heavyweight of this generation. Its quality not quantity of fights at the weight imo, the usual trajectory is you fight 20 fighters at/below your level to get to the elite fughters and are judged on those fights. Usyk fast tracked to elite level then beat two fighters that have dominated for best part of a decade in Fury and AJ and the rising star in Dubois.

Oleksandr Usyk took a while to settle into the first contest against Tyson Fury and the Briton led on all three of the judges' scorecards after seven rounds.

Usyk's boxing IQ is one of his greatest assets and he came on strong after adjusting his gameplan - even forcing a standing count on Fury in the ninth round.

With 12 rounds of data to build on, Usyk has refused to give anything away when asked this week.

"I learned a little bit [from the first fight] but I [will] not tell you. After my second win I will talk to you. It's not secret but maybe greedy belly will watch the TV," Usyk told BBC Sport.

A fully clothed Tyson Fury - leather jacket and all - tipped the scales at a career-heavy 20st 1lb when he weighed-in yesterday.

His true weight remains a mystery but that puts him at eight pounds heavier than when he fought Oleksandr Usyk in May.

Usyk, who was also fully clothed, was announced at 16st 2lb - a career-heavy too.

Speaking about the weight of the two fighters, Queensberry's Frank Warren, who promoted Fury, said: "You can analyse it anyway you like but tomorrow night you're going to find out who is the best.

"You know both of them will come to fight. We are going to see something extra, extra special."

The greatest sequel to date is clearly Top Gun: Maverick

Some sequels surpass the original in my opinion, but it’s the exception to the rule. I’ll have me some Lethal Weapon 2, Toy Story 2 and The Dark Knight for starters!

    Kal Sajad
BBC Sport at Kingdom Arena, Riyadh

At the grand arrivals, fighters were seated on a Boeing 777 on a makeshift runway. A day later, Fury and Usyk arrived to the open workout on a boat. Thursday's news conference was held inside a venue described as the most luxury mall in the country – so luxurious, in fact, one of the store sold supercars costing in their millions.

It all makes for a great spectacle, in another example of Saudi Arabia's growing influence on the sport.

Yet the events have also not been well attended and boxing has still not cut through to the wider public in Saudi.

Speaking to taxi drivers, hotel staff and any general public I've crossed paths with, the locals generally have no idea that there is a boxing event happening.

If Fury wins and there is a trilogy, it would be quite nice to bring it to the UK.

Shocking decision, Allen fully deserved that, nothing against Fisher. I love boxing but when you see results like that it makes you wonder why you bother. May as well tell you beforehand who will win, then let them slug it out.

    Simon O

I’m a real fan of Johnny Fisher and everything he’s doing in boxing, and he showed real guts tonight to stay the course, but come on - he lost that fight tonight. Gutted for Dave Allen, hope he’ll be able to look back on that fight with pride someday!
