Caroline Dubois was hoping to get the chance to legitimise her standing as the WBC lightweight champion - she gained the belt last month after Katie Taylor vacated - but a technical draw does little to satisfy.

For what it's worth, Dubois was on top for as long as it lasted... two rounds.

An unfortunate accidental clash of heads meant Jessica Camara didn't want to continue with blood pouring from above her left eye.

Dubois seemed happy enough and will be grateful she is healthy and fit for bigger challenges.

Unification is the next step with IBF champion Beatriz Ferreira or WBO champion Terri Harper on the horizon in 2025.

That was a disgraceful stoppage I have no idea what the referee was thinking.

I had a feeling it might go this way.

We love an all-British banger, right?

There are some protests from Steed Woodall's team that the fight was waved off prematurely by the referee.

Woodall had already been down on the canvas once, getting back to his feet by the count of eight.

A left hook, uppercut combination started the finish for Simpson before he unloaded with a flurry of hooks.

It was pretty one-sided but maybe Woodall could have been given a bit longer to try and find his feet?

Callum Simpson has just delighted the largely Yorkshire crowd that have travelled from Barnsley to Sheffield to watch him tonight.

Simpson stops Steed Woodall in round two and retains his British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles.

  6. Eubank says Benn fight will happenpublished at 21:35 Greenwich Mean Time

Chris Eubank Jr has also got his best on for the Ring Magazine awards. He has been speaking about someone called... Conor Benn? Anyone ever heard of him?

"This year, and that fight will happen. We're in negotiations and they are going very well," Eubank Jr said of Benn.

"We're at the last few things we've got smooth out and then the fight will get made, announced. So yeah, big things are happening very soon."

So it seems there are two obvious options on the table for Caroline Dubois.

IBF lightweight champion Beatriz Ferreira or WBO champion Terri Harper.

Ferreira is a double Olympic medallist, winning silver at Tokyo 2020 and bronze and Paris 2024, and has compiled a six-fight undefeated record as a professional.

Harper has been in the professional ranks since 2017 and is a three-weight world champion.

She has 15 wins, two defeats and two draws on her record.

Thumbs up if you want to see Dubois v Ferreira or thumbs down for Dubois v Harper.

While we are on the topic of heavyweights, why not have a read of this article about the highly-rated Moses Itauma.

Briton Itauma signed off 2024 with a statement knockout win against Demsey McKean.

The 19-year-old heavyweight has the world at his feet this year, having won all 11 professional bouts with nine of those victories coming via knockout.

Appearing on the undercard of Tyson Fury's rematch against Oleksandr Usyk in December, Itauma had come a long way from the "cold" climes of Slovakia, his mother's home nation, where he spent the first few years of his life.

"It's part of my identity, it's not something I would change, but we weren't treated the same way as everyone else," Itauma, whose father is of Nigerian heritage, said.

"We would stand out because we were the only African Slovak people, but I am proud of my heritage.

"I think I got the best of both worlds, that Slovak toughness, mentality, and I'm strong physically from my Nigerian side."

Speaking to the BBC from his gym in Essex, Itauma - who turns 20 on 28 December - reflects on his journey from the small Slovakian town of Kezmarok to becoming one of the hottest properties in boxing's glamour division.

  9. Joshua calls for Fury fightpublished at 21:27 Greenwich Mean Time

Elsewhere in the UK tonight, Anthony Joshua is attending the Ring Magazine awards and has just been speaking about Tyson Fury.

"Everyone is asking me the same question. It's up to me to deliver, that's why I'm saying it has to happen this year," Joshua said of Fury.

"I think we can make this fight happen.

"It's a fight I want to see because I am a fan of boxing. When I am in the gym, everyone is asking me. I ain't got many years ahead of me. I want to leave the game with a bang and make an impact."

  10. Harper hits backpublished at 21:21 Greenwich Mean Time

Dubois retains WBC lightweight title via technical draw

Speaking of Terri Harper, the WBO champion has sent WBC belt-holder a message on X - responding to a post made by Dubois in March after Harper had lost against Sandy Ryan.

The original message from Dubois last year said: "Wonder how Terri Harper rebuilds after this, it's gonna be tough."

Harper has quoted that message and responded by saying: "The irony … Thanks for the shout out tonight P.S. Happy Birthday."

The mind games are well under way between the British rivals!

Dubois retains WBC lightweight title via technical draw

Usually after an underwhelming end to a fight like we've just seen there would be clamour for a rematch but I have a feeling the book is closed between Caroline Dubois and Jessica Camara.

Unification is the next step for the Briton and that means either IBF champion Beatriz Ferreira or WBO champion Terri Harper.

  12. Postpublished at 21:14 Greenwich Mean Time

How far can Caroline Dubois go?

We only got to see four minutes of action from her tonight but she still looked very sharp during that short space of time.

Dubois' trainer Shane McGuigan says unification and undisputed bouts are in her future and claims she is the "best female fighter on the planet by a mile".

Thumbs up if you agree with McGuigan or thumbs down if you don't.

Dubois retains WBC lightweight title via technical draw

Shane McGuigan, who trains Caroline Dubois, speaking to Sky Sports: " Phenomenal. She hasn't anywhere reached her ceiling.

"To do that to Jessica Camara within two rounds, no disrespect but she knew she was in deep.

"The cut was on the side and it [blood] wasn't dropping in the eye. I was surprised we didn't go past four rounds."

On what the future holds for Dubois: "Unification, undisputed, she will beat them all. She is the best female fighter on the planet by a mile."

  15. 'I want you Harper'published at 21:03 Greenwich Mean Time

Dubois retains WBC lightweight title via technical draw

WBC lightweight champion Caroline Dubois, speaking to Sky Sports: "I don't think she wanted it. I hit her with a straight right and knocked her down. Her right eye was swollen from a punch. The blood wasn't coming in her face, she didn't want it.

"It was either getting stopped by a doctor or I'm stopping it. I wish her well and hope she has a safe flight home."

On making her first world title defence: "It was amazing. The crowd was awesome. You showed your support and I have nothing else but to show gratitude.

"I know I messed up Callum Simpson's warm-up. I'm sorry it was so quick."

On who she wants next: "Terri Harper, that's who I want. I want you Terri Harper."

    Dubois v Camara

It's worth noting that although the cut above Camara's left eye was caused by an accidental clash of heads, her right eye is also heavily swollen and her nose was bloodied.

    Dubois was firmly on top.

    Dubois v Camara

    That's so frustrating all round.

Dubois had started so strongly and seemed well on track to win this fight, likely within the distance.

But she has to settle with retaining the belt, which she was handed after Katie Taylor vacated, via a technical decision draw.

    Dubois v Camara

We're looking at the moment the cut was opened up again and it is from a clash of heads.

The result means that Dubois retains her WBC lightweight title.

The referee has just gone across to Camara's corner between rounds to confirm the cut above her eye has been caused by a clash of heads.
