Scotland have won their third gold of Birmingham 2022 after Kevin Wallace and Garry Brown triumphed in the Commonwealth Games Para pairs bowls.

Wallace and Brown beat Australia 16-7 in Leamington Spa to earn Scotland's second bowls medal of the day after Alex Marshall and Paul Foster took pairs bronze earlier on Tuesday.

The decorated duo had overwhelmed Northern Ireland 25-5.

It means Scotland now have 25 medals on day five of the 11-day competition.

Marshall had been aiming to reclaim his sole status as Scotland's leading Games gold-medal winner but he and Foster were beaten by England in the semis.

However, he will have another chance to move back ahead of Para-cyclist Neil Fachie by earning his sixth gold when he goes in the fours, with that campaign starting later on Tuesday.

Brown - a late replacement for the expelled Garry Hood - has performed admirably in the lead role. But both he and Wallace had to summon their resolve in their final after slipping 4-2 behind after four ends.

The Scots would not trail for long, though. By the time the sixth end was done, they led. By the even of the seventh, they were four clear. And by the end of the eighth, the lead was an almost unassailable six. Job done.

Australia rallied but could never get closer than four points adrift as the Scottish pair saw out the contest and claimed gold in fine style.

"It means the world to me," said Wallace. "I felt really relaxed, no nerves, and me and Garry play great as a team."

Brown wouldn't be drawn on his late call up - "that's history" - but paid tribute to his partner. "Kevin was outstanding from the world go. If he is on cloud nine, I'm on cloud 99," he said.

"We had three goals here. Get out of the group, win the semi, and then do what we've done in the final. They beat us in the groups but we had the bit between our teeth today."
