Leicestershire celebrate promotionImage source, Rex Features

What an incredible round of County Championship cricket this has been.

The weather might have played havoc with the chances of positive results at most grounds, but we have had drama, intrigue and wonderful individual performances galore.

As the dust settles Leicestershire are celebrating promotion to Division One after 22 years away.

Their draw at Gloucestershire proved enough and the second tier also witnessed a stunning maiden double century from Glam batter Asa Tribe, while young Lancashire paceman Mitch Stanley followed up his maiden five-for in the last round of matches with one in each innings in a draw at Kent, ending with match figures of 11-180.

There was just one positive result in Division One, but it was a biggie.

Notts held their nerve, just, to win by three wickets in a nerve-jangling chase at New Road.

That result means the Pears need snookers to avoid relegation next week while Notts head to leaders Surrey next Monday trailing the triple-champions by a single point.

Durham's battling draw at Essex has kept them firmly in the fight for survival with Hampshire's eight-point deduction drawing them closer to trouble and Yorkshire within striking distance too after their rain-hit match at Somerset.

Thanks for your company this week, the interest levels have been huge, and we've enjoyed every minute.

We'll be back here on Saturday afternoon and evening for T20 Blast Finals Day, of course, and we'll have every over of next week's Championship action too from Monday morning.

    We'll see you then!

  6. ESSEX DRAW WITH DURHAMpublished at 16:59 BST 11 September

    Essex 457-8dec v Durham 333 & 173-7

A short ball from Jamie Porter in the deep gloom is the final act of this enthralling match.

If Durham manage to survive in Division One this season they should build a statue of Ben Raine and Matt Potts touching gloves in this game.

Durham were 1891- on day one having won the toss but despite Ben McKinney's fine century they only made 333.

Essex built a lead of 124 to take into the final day thanks to 150 from Dean Elgar and Matt Critchley's 129 and they had Durham 96-7 and looking likely to lose by an innings...

That was until Raine and Potts cane together with an unbroken 77-run stand, Raine finishing 42* and Potts 34*.

Essex did take two more bonus points from the match, meaning they lead second-bottom Durham by 14 points in the table.

  7. 6 runs

for Ben Rainepublished at 16:58 BST 11 September

    Essex 457-8dec v Durham 333 & 173-7

Ben Raine clobbers Simon Harmer over long-off for six to start his latest over and now has 42*.

he has added 77 with Matt Potts and the lead is now 49.

    Crisis averted, it feels...

Six overs remain in theory, it might be half-an-hour mind you, given the rate Essex are rattling the overs off.

  8. 'It's all set up very nicely'published at 16:56 BST 11 September

    Surrey 246 & 391-8 dec v Warwickshire 248 & 105-1 - result

    Mark Church
    BBC Radio London commentator

It's all set up very nicely for the last two games of the season.

Next week for Surrey it's Nottinghamshire here and that is going to be a very, very interesting four days with a point between the two.

  9. KENT AND LANCASHIRE DRAWpublished at 16:55 BST 11 September

Lancs 138-3 - target 303 to beat Kent

Good game this, would have been even better without the weather.

Mitch Stanley picked up 11 wickets for 180 in the match to steal the show.

They're off for rain but have shaken hands in the pavilion.

  10. Postpublished at 16:53 BST 11 September

    Essex 457-8dec v Durham 333 & 159-7

This uber-attacking field is doing Essex no favours at the moment as the runs keep coming into the gaps left behind them.

Matt Potts clips a couple off Jamie Porter to move to 31* and take the lead to 35.

  11. Postpublished at 16:51 BST 11 September

    Essex 457-8dec v Durham 333 & 157-7

The lead swells to 27 as Ben Raine dances down the track to crack Simon Harmer to a wide long-on for another boundary.

Every one a blow to the hosts.

There's another, slog-swept by Raine who now has 33* and they run two from a clip to the vacant square leg area from the next ball.

The lights have come back on and the clouds are gathering again, but 10 come from the over and Durham's lead is 33.

Raine has 35* with Matt Potts 29*.

  12. SURREY DRAW WITH WARWICKSHIREpublished at 16:51 BST 11 September
    Breaking

    Surrey 246 & 391-8 dec v Warwickshire 248 & 105-1

Dan Lawrence twirls in again and Will Young deposits the ball over mid-wicket for four runs.

It is the final blow in anger as the players shake hands on the draw at the end of the over.

Surrey delayed their declaration until after Dom Sibley reached a century, despite batting with a groin injury, and it was then a question of whether they could bowl Warwickshire out.

They couldn't, and will have only a single-point lead over Nottinghamshire when the two teams meet at The Oval next week in a potential title decider.

  13. Postpublished at 16:48 BST 11 September

    Essex 457-8dec v Durham 333 & 147-7

Matt Potts moves to 29* with a lovely straight drive down the ground from the final ball of Noah Thain's over for four. Five close catchers around the bat doesn't faze him.

    The lead is 23.

Nine overs remain, though if Simon Harmer rattles through some they might pinch an extra one or two.

  14. 'Not been a good season Young would have liked'published at 16:47 BST 11 September

Warwickshire 100-1 - target 390 to beat Surrey

    Clive Eakin
    BBC CWR Sport

It's not been a season Will Young would have liked.

He's averaging just over 30, 642 runs he's got for the season.

  15. Postpublished at 16:47 BST 11 September

    Warwickshire 100-1 - target 390

Another over ticks by at The Oval.

The players look happy enough but are probably just waiting for the clock to tick round to the time when they can call a halt.

Matthew Fisher is still charging in, but these two are well set and Will Young dead bats into the off-side and takes a single to take the total up to 100.

  16. Back under way at Chelmsfordpublished at 16:45 BST 11 September

    Essex 457-8dec v Durham 333 & 143-7

Essex have been out on the field for ages waiting to get back under way.

Ben Raine (25*) and Matt Potts (25*) have added 47 for this eighth wicket to lead by 19.

They have 9.5 overs facing them... which is actually 7, really, given losing two for the change of innings.

Noah Thain will bowl the final five balls of his over before Simon Harmer and Jamie Porter take over.

  17. Postpublished at 16:40 BST 11 September

Warwickshire 95-1 - target 390 to beat Surrey

A nice game of sunshine cricket with the absolute minimum of peril is continuing at The Oval.

Rob Yates has moved to 33* with Will Young on 22* but unless they can start rattling the runs off at 13 an over or Surrey find nine quick wickets then this is drifting to an inevitable conclusion.

  18. Play to resume at 4.46pmpublished at 16:36 BST 11 September

Durham 143-7 lead Essex by 19

    Martin Emmerson
    BBC Radio Newcastle

The groundstaff have done a great job mopping up after the thunderstorm which hit Chelmsford just before 3pm.

Play is set to resume at 4.46pm and we have a minimum of 9.5 overs to go. Durham are ahead by 19 runs and there would need to be a change of innings if Essex are win.

They obviously need three quick wickets, but if Durham get to within three overs of the end of the game it's job done.

They could end being nine down and lose that final wicket in that third last over, but they would have saved the game because there would be no time for a re-start.

  19. rain stops play

Rain stops play at Canterburypublished at 16:36 BST 11 September

Lancs 138-3 - target 303 to beat Kent

That milestone for Marcus Harris was the final ball before the umpires called the players off with rain falling steadily.

The players didn't shake hands, but with 23 overs remaining and the game situation as is, it wouldn't come as a surprise if that was the final action of the day.

  20. 50 runs

Lancs 138-3 - target 303 to beat Kent

Marcus Harris scampers through for a 69-ball half-century with a flick off his hips from Matt Parkinson.

    Five fours and a six.
