Northants 567-7 dec drew with Leicestershire 238-6

Northants 9 pts, Leicestershire 5 pts

Northants and Leicestershire settled for a draw after a series of rain interruptions on the final day.

The home side advanced their score from 142-3 to 238-6 before a halt was called after just 36.1 overs of play.

It was Northants, however, who earned an extra bonus point when Steven Crook dismissed Michael Thornely and Rob Taylor with successive deliveries.

Earlier, Australian batsman Joe Burns top scored for the home side with 77 before being bowled by Andrew Hall.

With the best part of two sessions lost to the weather on day three, the only chance of a positive result was if Leicestershire collapsed and had to follow on.

And, even though Burns went in the 10th over, Thornely (46) and Matthew Boyce (40 not out) added 77 to make that a remote prospect, although Jigar Naik had the nerve-jangling experience of facing Crook's hat-trick ball, which he survived, before the weather had the final say.
