Devon struggled on the second day of the Minor Counties Championship game with Herefordshire, despite a ton from new skipper Josh Bess.

Devon started the day on 40-4, in reply to the hosts first-innings' 344-7.

But Bess led a recovery with the help of Sandy Allen (42) and Rhys Davies (63) and reached 113 not out before they were finally dismissed for 302.

Herefordshire then extended their lead to 210, as they closed the day on 168-2, with Mike O'Shea unbeaten on 83.
