New Lancashire signing Jos Buttler says his ambition is to become England's first-choice Test wicketkeeper.
The 23-year-old , external county on Monday, ignoring , external after choosing to leave home county Somerset.
Buttler has played 19 one-day matches and 25 Twenty20 games for England but a first Test cap has so far eluded him.
"I'm an ambitious person and I want to play Test cricket. That's my ultimate aim," he told BBC North West Tonight.
"Realistically, I know I'm a little way off that, but that's why I'm here. I feel this club can aid me in doing that and getting me to my ultimate goals."
Buttler has impressed for England in limited-overs cricket in 2013, starring in the recent one-day series against Australia, but has not been included in the touring party for the upcoming Ashes series down under.
Matt Prior has made the wicketkeeper's berth his own at Test level, with Yorkshire's Jonny Bairstow preferred to Buttler, the Lancashire-bound player's Somerset colleague Craig Kieswetter and Surrey's Steven Davies as back-up to the 31-year-old in Australia.
Kieswetter is first choice keeper for Somerset, and as a result Taunton-born Buttler kept wicket only three times in the Championship last season, but he will get more opportunities behind the stumps at Old Trafford following Lancashire's decision to release Gareth Cross.
Lancashire head coach Peter Moores, who played more than 200 first-class games as a wicketkeeper for Sussex and Worcestershire, is excited at the prospect of working with Buttler, a player he describes as one of the brightest young talents in English cricket.
Moores told BBC Radio Lancashire: "It's a big decision for him but I think he's made the right one.
"He's a very good player at the moment but there's still lots more to come.
"He's got his ambitions - he wants to go and play for his country and challenge for a Test match place. Hopefully we can help him do that, and in the meantime he can help us to achieve trophies that will satisfy the thirst of the club."
Lancashire, county champions in 2011, will play in the top flight again next season after winning the Division Two title in 2013.
