World Cricket League: Jersey lose to Oman in play-off

Jersey's disappointing World Cricket League Four campaign ended with a 36-run defeat by Oman in the fifth-place play-off.

Both teams already knew they were relegated before play began after finishing in the bottom two during the group stage.

Oman were put into bat and hit 246 all out, helped by 90 from Jatinder Singh.

Jersey openers Peter Gough and Ed Farley both hit half centuries but the island side fell short again.

As in so many of the matches this week there were moments in the game where they found themselves in a good position to go on and win but another batting collapse left them with five defeats from six games at the tournament.

Singh starred with the bat for Oman but missed out on his century when Anthony Kay showed impressive alertness to run him out.

Nat Watkins and Charles Perchard each took three wickets for the Channel Islanders, who at one point had reduced Oman to 74-4.

In reply, Gough (50) continued his impressive form at the his tournament and wicket-keeper Farley struck some big blows in his 55 before being caught and bowled by Arif Hussain.

Jersey slid from 130-1 to 176-7, leaving too much for the tail to do. Teenager James Duckett was the last man out as they finished on 210 with 4.3 overs remaining.

Both Oman and Jersey will now compete in World League Five, which looks unlikely to be played until 2016.

Meanwhile, Malaysia were crowned League Four champions as they beat hosts Singapore in the final by 57 runs. Both sides are promoted.
