Glamorgan: Dean Cosker still hopes for England Test call-up

Dean Cosker celebrates a wicket for Glamorgan. The 36-year-old left arm spinner still harbours hopes of playing for England.

Glamorgan spin bowler Dean Cosker has not given up on playing for England in spite of being an "elder statesman".

The 36-year-old left-armer took 5-97 as Worcestershire set Glamorgan a tough target in their County Championship Division Two match.

It was Cosker's third five-wicket haul of the season and took his wicket tally past 30.

"Obviously I'm a bit of an elder statesman on the scene now [but] you never give up hope," said Cosker.

The Weymouth-born bowler was tipped to become an England Test player early in his career, touring Pakistan with the England Under-19 team and making two England A touring parties.

However, he never made the breakthrough into Test cricket but has discovered a rich vein of form in 2014.

"It's obviously in the back of your mind from a young guy growing up [and] you never really lose that passion or dream to play for England," he said.

"That's what it's all about, that's why I started playing this game for that dream to play for England. All you can keep on doing is keep on taking key wickets for Glamorgan and if we are winning games that bodes well.

"Personally I'm not really doing much different and you just sort of know your game slightly better as you get older.

"I certainly know my game better now than I did when I was 18-19 when I went on a couple of A tours.

"All you've got to keep on doing is keep knocking at the door - I'm not expecting anything of course, but I still feel I could do a job but it's important I keep taking wickets for Glamorgan."

Glamorgan face a tough battle to avoid defeat on the final day of their match at New Road, having been set a target of 355 by their hosts.
