Warwickshire: Jonathan Trott signs new three-year Bears deal

Jonathan Trott found his touch in the second half of the summer with three County Championship centuries

Jonathan Trott has committed his future to Warwickshire by signing a new three-year contract with the club.

The 33-year-old batsman's England career has been on hold since quitting the Ashes tour last winter, leading to the expiry of his central contract at the end of the 2014 domestic season.

But based on the form in which Trott finished the summer, the Bears now find themselves the beneficiaries.

"It's been great to see him enjoying his cricket," said coach Dougie Brown.

"Jonathan played some of the best cricket of his career in the second half of last season and he showed that he remains one of the leading batsmen in the English game.

"He made a big contribution to the team's strong finish to the season.

"He loves Warwickshire and playing cricket at Edgbaston, and everyone connected with the club is thrilled to see him commit long-term."

Trott, who has scored 3,763 runs in 49 Tests at an average of 46.45, including nine centuries, signed his first professional contract with the club in 2003 and is now committed to them until 2017,

And the Cape Town-born batsman, who played for South Africa Under-19s before qualifying to play for England, insists he has rediscovered his hunger for the game in domestic cricket this summer.

"Warwickshire is a very special club for me and my family and I would like to thank everyone associated with the club for their support," added Trott, who is married to former captain Tom Dollery's granddaughter.

"It has always been a great honour to represent the Bears and I am delighted to commit to the club once again for a further three years.

"Hopefully we can build on the success of this year by achieving greater success in the years to come."
