Steven Mullaney signs new Nottinghamshire contract

Mullaney has switched from middle-order to opener during his time at Trent Bridge

Nottinghamshire all-rounder Steven Mullaney has signed a new contract until the end of the 2017 season.

Mullaney arrived from Lancashire before the start of the 2010 season and helped the club win the County Championship title in his first summer at Trent Bridge.

"This is a really good team and I can see us going on to win trophies in the next few years," the 28-year-old said.

"I wanted to be a part of that, and a part of Nottinghamshire."

Mullaney was named the club's Player of the Year in 2013, but struggled with the bat in the four-day game last season, scoring only 380 runs in 11 matches at an average of 18.10.

But he hit two half centuries and averaged 30.43 in the One-Day Cup, as well as scoring 164 runs and taking 11 wickets with his leg-spin in the T20 Blast.

"He has a big role to play in white-ball cricket and he's determined to fight for his place in our Championship team," said director of cricket Mick Newell.

Wicketkeeper and Championship captain Chris Read signed a new deal with the club on Monday.
