Michael Clarke: Australia captain fit for first India Test

Michael Clarke has played 104 Test matches for Australia, including 39 as captain

Michael Clarke will captain Australia in this week's first Test match against India at the Adelaide Oval after recovering from a hamstring injury.

Fast bowler Mitchell Johnson said Clarke was "100% fit" to lead the side in a match delayed following the death of Australia batsman Phillip Hughes.

Clarke gave a moving eulogy for Hughes, who died after being struck by a ball, at the batsman's funeral on 3 December.

Hughes is Australia's "13th man" for the Test, which begins on Tuesday.

Cricket Australia have also announced a number of other tributes in honour of the batsman.

Australia players will wear black armbands, as well as sport Hughes's Test cap number 408 on their shirts.

Former Australia Test captain and broadcaster Richie Benaud will also narrate a pre-match video tribute.

The opening batsman, 25, died in hospital two days after being hit by a short-pitched delivery during a domestic Sheffield Shield game.

Clarke and the rest of the Australia squad attended his funeral in Macksville in New South Wales.

A four-match series against India should have begun in Brisbane on December 4, but that Test will now start on Tuesday.

Clarke, 33, was absent for October's one-day series with Pakistan and the bulk of last month's one-day series against South Africa.

Virat Kohli has confirmed he will captain India in the absence of MS Dhoni, who has failed to recover from a broken thumb in time for the first Test.

Kohli, who attended Hughes's funeral, paid tribute to the former batsman and said that his side will retain a professional attitude.

"I think after attending the funeral I was as emotional and taken aback by the incident because Phil was one of the guys I used to interact with when he used to come on tours and even when I was in Australia," he said.

"I was in a camp with him in 2008 at Brisbane and I was always closer to him than most of the guys.

"It was an equally saddening and emotional moment for me, but as professional cricketers you have to move on and do what needs to be done."

Sean Abbott, who delivered the bouncer which led to Hughes's death, could return to action on Tuesday after being named in a 12-man New South Wales squad for a match against Queensland.
