Ian Harvey: Gloucestershire name former player new assistant coach

Australian Ian Harvey was a key part of the treble-winning Gloucestershire side of 2000

Former Australia and Gloucestershire all-rounder Ian Harvey has been named as the county's assistant head coach.

Harvey, who also played for Derbyshire, Northants, Hampshire and Yorkshire, won six limited-overs trophies with Glos.

He played 73 one-day internationals for Australia, scoring 715 runs at an average of 17.87 and taking 85 wickets.

"It's a really exciting time," he told the club website. "Over the next few seasons we've got the opportunity to be pushing for trophies and promotion."

Former England spin bowler Richard Dawson, who was appointed as Gloucestershire's head coach in January, played alongside Harvey at Yorkshire.

"It's very exciting for the club to have Ian Harvey as assistant coach," added Dawson. "We interviewed some very strong candidates and Ian stood out.

"He already knows about the club, having been a major part of its most successful period in the late nineties and early 2000s.

"His passion for the club is clear to see and he wants to recreate the successful environment he experienced here as a player."

In total, Harvey hit 15 first-class tons, as well as the first-ever century in T20 cricket in 2003.

"A lot of things at the club have changed but one thing that hasn't is the supporters," added Harvey.

"They are one of the things that made it so enjoyable playing for this club and being successful. Hopefully they can keep supporting us and help us get back to the way we were."
