Glamorgan's bowlers put their side on top against Northants, as two sessions were washed out on day two in Cardiff.
Resuming on 0-0, the visitors struggled to 33-5 as seamer Michael Hogan and first-innings centurion Craig Meschede took two wickets each.
Josh Cobb (21 not out) and Adam Rossington (24 not out) saw their side to 79-5 at lunch, still 292 behind.
However, the rain arrived during the interval and when it did not relent the umpires called off play at 16:45 BST.
The unbroken partnership of 46 between Cobb and Rossington came after a crazy six-over spell in which Northants lost five wickets for just five runs, including Kyle Coetzer and Rob Newton without scoring.
Both will resume in the morning looking to chip into Glamorgan's first-innings total of 371.
Glamorgan fast bowler Michael Hogan told BBC Radio Wales Sport:
"It was a positive first session from us, we spoke about what we needed to do and went out and executed it quite well.
"We feel like we're in control of the game at the moment, but we found when we batted that when the ball lost its shine, it became a really nice batting wicket.
"The weather's disappointing but we're in a good spot and there's still plenty of time left."
