Ashes 2015: England 'proud' to stifle Australia's Michael Clarke

Seamer Stuart Broad says England are "proud" of negating Australia captain Michael Clarke in the Ashes.

Clarke, 34, has made only 94 runs in six innings with a best of 38 and said his form meant Australia had been "playing with 10 players".

After last week's eight-wicket victory, England take a 2-1 lead into Thursday's fourth Test at Trent Bridge and Broad said: "We've made it hard for Michael.

"We talk a lot about him and are proud of the way we've bowled at him so far."

Clarke has played 113 Tests and averages 49 but has gone 10 innings since making his 28th Test century, which came against India in December last year, and questions over his future as skipper have been raised.

"We know how dangerous he is. He is such a key player for them and it's been going well so far," said Broad, the leading England wicket-taker in the series with 12.

England have had an inconsistent year, with their first three Test victories of 2015 each followed by a defeat.

After a 169-run victory in the first Test at Cardiff last month there was a resounding 405-run loss at Lord's a week later, but Broad said: "It's about making sure our game plan is dead right and not to worry too much about what the Aussies are doing.

"None of the Tests have been very close, have they? Not like 2005 where each game went to the wire. It's been a fascinating series."

Nottinghamshire's Broad is needs one wicket at his home ground this week to become only the fifth England bowler to reach 300 in Tests.

Broad added: "My grandfather won't be here; he'll be watching on TV. He's 96 now so he doesn't like the car journeys.

"But my grandma will come and dad [former Test batsman and current match official Chris] has just got back from Bangladesh.

"But I've not got it yet so I don't want to look too far ahead.

"I love playing at Trent Bridge; I live five minutes away. If I get it here this week it will mean a lot to me."
