Leicestershire lost four early wickets after Billy Godleman's century helped Derbyshire set the hosts 273 to win.

Leicestershire resumed on 304-8 at Grace Road, but Mark Footitt (5-54) struck as they were bowled out for 314.

Godleman's 101 was Derbyshire's only score above 30, seamer Clint McKay (4-39) the pick of the bowlers as the visitors slumped to 241 all out.

But Derbyshire then battled back with the ball, as Leicestershire closed on 56-4, needing 216 more runs to win.

The Foxes had looked on track to pick up only their second Championship win of the season as they reached 36-1, but a late burst from Tony Palladino (2-7) means they instead face the prospect of a sixth straight loss.
