World League Five: Hosts Jersey ease to 102-run victory over Vanuatu

Nat Watkins faced 98 balls for his 65 runs before taking three wickets

Hosts Jersey strolled to a 102-run win over Vanuatu on another rain-affected day at World Cricket League Five.

Put in to bat first after a three-hour delay, Jersey opener Nat Watkins made a steady 65 to help his side post 200-9 from their 37 overs.

Tidy bowling from Anthony Kay and Rob McBey restricted Vanuatu to 24-2 from their first 10 overs.

Watkins then took 3-23 as Vanuatu stuttered to 98 all out, despite 43 from Joshua Rasu.

"The opening partnership really set the tone," coach Neil MacRae told BBC Radio Jersey. "Nat Watkins produced an excellent opener's innings.

"To get our tournament off with two points and such a convincing performance after being put in on a tricky wicket, it was a great team display,"

The Channel Islanders will now face top-seeds Oman on Monday in a re-arranged match, the initial game having been abandoned because of rain on the opening day of the tournament.

The eventual finalists will both win promotion to League Four in Los Angeles later in 2016, while the bottom three face relegation from the World League structure into regional tournaments.
