World League Five: Guernsey still focused on promotion says captain

Guernsey captain Jamie Nussbaumer says his side are still focused on promotion from World Cricket League Division Five, despite losing to Jersey.

Guernsey went down to a seven-wicket defeat by the hosts and their oldest rivals, and face unbeaten leaders Oman in their last group game on Friday.

If Jersey beat Nigeria in their final game, Guernsey will have to beat Oman in order to be promoted.

"Our destiny is in our own hands with promotion still on the cards," he said.

"The fact that we've won three out of our first four, yes we didn't want to lose to Jersey, but on the whole if you'd have given us that at the start of the week we definitely would have taken it," Nussbaumer told BBC Radio Guernsey.

The Sarnians have never qualified for Division Four of the World Cricket League, but have at the very least guaranteed their Division Five status.

"We can have a good week by maintaining that third spot, or we can have an unbelievable week by being promoted," added Nussbaumer.

"Hopefully Oman have an off day and we can get one over them and book our tickets.

"If we end up finishing third it'll be the joint-best finish we've ever had in World Cricket League, and if we get promoted then that speaks for itself.

"People forget as well that we've lost Tim Ravenscroft, Will Fazackerly and Tom Nightingale, who have become a big part of our squad.

"So to get promoted, to win our first three games, there are much more positives then negatives to reflect on."
