Essex and Leicestershire were unable to make it to the middle on day two of their Championship game following heavy rain at Chelmsford.
The downpour left large pools of water on the outfield and umpires Russell Evans and Peter Hartley called off play for the day at 11:30 BST.
The home side were set to resume on 266-9, with David Masters 14 not out and last man Jamie Porter on four.
Charlie Shreck (4-79) and Clint McKay (3-46) are the main wicket-takers.
