World Cricket League Four: Jersey on brink of relegation after loss to Bermuda

Jersey's survival in World League Four is hanging by a thread after an 85-run loss to Bermuda in Los Angeles.

Opener Kamau Leverock smashed 18 boundaries in his 137 to help the Bermudians to an imposing 312-8 total.

Jersey lost skipper Peter Gough for a duck and Sussex second team batsman Jonty Jenner for six to leave them on 23-2 after four-and-a-half overs.

15-year-old Harrison Carlyon made a solid 32, but was one of Cejay Outerbridge's five victims.

Jersey are second-from-bottom of the six-team group, with the two lowest-placed sides being relegated back to Division Five.

Jersey need to overcome hosts the United States, who are top, in their final group game and hope Italy beat Bermuda, to stand a chance of survival on net run rate.

"It was a tough day for us on a very flat wicket," said Jersey coach Neil MacRae.

"I thought we played some good cricket in the field, trying to contain on a flat wicket, but we've got to hold our hands up and say the innings that came against us [from Leverock] was too much for us today."

The match was reduced to 45 overs a side after a delay of more than half an hour when the sight screen bent in half in strong winds.

But the stoppage failed to hamper the concentration and momentum of the Bermuda openers, Keverock and captain Oliver Pitcher (63) who put on 211 for the first wicket.

Charles Perchard eventually got the breakthrough in the 34th over but by then the damage was done.

Farmers-Caesareans groundsman Jimmy Perchard, who travelled to Los Angeles to watch his son Charles, was on hand to help repair the sight screen.

In reply, Jersey were reduced to 66-3 when first Gough, then Jenner, then Nat Watkins mistimed shots before Will Harris was the victim of a 'Mankad' run out as bowler Janeiro Tucker whipped off the bails.

Corey Bisson again looked in good form with 48 from just 23 deliveries but his side were never on top in the contest.
