Glamorgan v Sussex: Visitors edge thriller at Colwyn Bay

Sussex claimed their third successive Championship win as they reached 211-9 against Glamorgan for a dramatic one-wicket victory.

Number nine Ollie Robinson clubbed 41 off 37 balls after Sussex seemed to have lost their chance.

Glamorgan claimed four wickets for five runs to leave the visitors 160-8 despite Chris Nash's 68.

Lukas Carey claimed 3-40, before Robinson's hard hitting turned the tide of the game again.

Earlier Chris Jordan took 5-46 as Glamorgan were dismissed for 182, Craig Meschede again top-scoring with 41.

The modest target of 209 looked within Sussex's grasp at 100-2, but Carey, Andrew Salter, Ruaidhri Smith and Michael Hogan all claimed vital wickets.

Glamorgan were left ruing dropped slip chances which allowed Stiaan van Zyl (38) and Ben Brown (37) to give Nash crucial support, and Robinson eventually won it with a six to add to seven wickets on his come-back from injury.

Glamorgan captain Michael Hogan told BBC Wales Sport:

"It's probably a disappointing result in the end but we take a lot of positives out of the way a young group played over the three days. The next oldest was 11 years my junior, but it keeps me energised!

"We were probably favourites (at 160-8) with the wicket just offering enough, but the way Robinson played was the way he needed to play on that wicket.

"There were whispers of 'why are we sending a second team up' (to North Wales), and probably no-one apart from us expected to win, but there were eight lads who've come through our system and it bodes well for the future."

Sussex match-winner Ollie Robinson told BBC Sussex:

"It's been a good return, I've worked hard since the (shin-splint) injury to get back in the first team so it's a nice feeling to put a win with it as well.

"There happened to be a few balls I could get hold off, we had a little flurry and from then I just blocked the good balls and tried to hit the bad ones, it's a simple game.

"We needed the win to stay in the promotion chase, so it was a big win for us."
