The one-day series between USA and Ireland has been called off after further Covid cases emerged on Tuesday.

It was cancelled on Tuesday night after two Irish players were identified as close contacts of positive cases.

The series had earlier been interrupted by Covid cases among members of the USA squad and umpires for the series.

The first of three scheduled games in Florida was cancelled and now the games on Wednesday and Thursday are off.

The second match, planned for Tuesday, was pushed back 24 hours after "a small number" of cases within the playing and support staff groups.

Players in both playing squads returned negative Covid tests on Monday night but two members of the Irish support staff have tested positive, as well as several partners of players, resulting in the two Ireland players being deemed close contacts.

"The risks and concerns about further spread have meant that both Boards have regrettably agreed to cancel the remaining two scheduled matches," said USA Cricket and Cricket Ireland.

The USA stunned favourites Ireland in the first Twenty20 International at the Broward County Stadium before Christmas, but the visitors hit back in the second T20 to level the series.

Ireland's trip to the USA was billed as historic with the scheduled five-game series the first time a full ICC member would face the US on American soil.

The Irish touring party are scheduled to depart Florida for Jamaica on 31 December ahead of their series against West Indies.
