LV= County Championship Division Two, Lord's (day four):

Glamorgan 214: C Cooke 52; Higgins 4-59 & 220: Lloyd 70; Roland-Jones 5-61

Middlesex 390: Stoneman 128, Simpson 76, Hollman 58; Harris 5-90 & 45-0

Middlesex (23 pts) beat Glamorgan (4 pts) by 10 wickets

Middlesex moved into the second promotion spot in Division Two with a comfortable final-day 10-wicket win over Glamorgan inside an hour.

They now have a 12-point lead over Glamorgan with two rounds to play.

Ex-England paceman Toby Roland-Jones then completed a five-wicket haul as Glamorgan were bowled out for 220.

Middlesex openers Mark Stoneman and Sam Robson then knocked off the 45 needed in just 5.2 overs, to secure a fifth Championship win of the season.

In their last home game of the summer, it was Middlesex's first Championship win since beating Durham on 22 May.

Glamorgan began with an overnight lead of 15 runs but Roland-Jones finished them off quickly with Ajaz Patel (9) and Michael Hogan (14) both caught at mid-off, leaving Timm van der Gugten not out 17.

New Zealand spinner Patel opened the bowling alongside James Harris, but Stoneman hit four boundaries and Robson five to wrap up victory far more easily than seemed likely the previous afternoon, when Glamorgan had reached 123-0.

Middlesex now travel to bottom side Leicestershire on Tuesday 20 September, when Glamorgan host Derbyshire.

Middlesex captain Tim Murtagh:

"I'm really happy with the character this week because we've had the rough end of conditions at times, the sun was out a lot when we were bowling and we batted a long time under the lights, though the toss was a good one to win.

"We had a couple of big match-winning performances. Mark Stoneman's hundred. He looked the most comfortable of anyone throughout the game, then Toby's such a big player for us with another five-for.

"The last session on day three was as good a session as I've been involved with here.

"We looked like the team who had been winning recently, and the comprehensive nature of the win was an important marker against a team who had gone above us."

Glamorgan coach Matthew Maynard told BBC Sport Wales:

"The second innings was very disappointing. After watching Dave (Lloyd) and Eddie (Byrom) play the way they did going at four an over and making it look easy, maybe a bit of complacency set in and we lost some poor wickets.

"Shubman (Gill) and Kiran (Carlson) tried to dig in, but that's not the way we've played in the past and we didn't try to wrestle any momentum back.

"It becomes a mind-set thing, it's just re-iterating how we want to play the game, looking for one of our guys to get a big hundred and put us in a position to score 400 runs. We haven't managed that in the last two Championship matches so we need to get that right if we're to have any chance of promotion.

"We'll think about selection (against Derbyshire) when emotions have settled, Andrew Salter will come into the squad. It's clear we need to try to get maximum points from both games to stand any chance."
