Kent have signed South African seamer Michael Cohen on a two-year deal.

Cohen, 25, was born in Cape Town but qualifies as a non-overseas player through residency.

The left-arm fast bowler has a first class average of 26.13, having taken 68 wickets in 22 matches.

"Michael is a talented young bowler that will provide us with an extra dimension to our collective bowling unit," said Kent's director of cricket Simon Cook.

"[He will] provide a different challenge for batters with his left-arm pace."

Cohen played for Derbyshire in 2020 and 2021, and has represented South Africa Under-19s as well as Cape Cobras and Western Province.

Kent had already bolstered their seam attack this winter with the signing of George Garrett from Warwickshire in October.

"This winter our bowlers will be working hard in becoming a ruthless unit that is capable of consistently taking wickets," Cook told the Kent website.

"Both Michael and George will fit nicely into our existing bowling core going into the new season."
