William Porterfield: Lancashire appoint ex-Ireland captain to coaching staff

William Porterfield retired from playing in 2022 having been Ireland's longest-serving captain

Lancashire have appointed former Ireland captain William Porterfield as part of Dale Benkenstein's coaching staff at Old Trafford.

The 39-year-old previously worked with Benkenstein at Gloucestershire, where he began his coaching career.

His appointment comes shortly after assistant head coach Carl Crowe left the club on Monday.

"I'm pleased that Will has joined join me and I look forward to continuing our relationship," Benkenstein said.

"Will and I worked together for two years in Bristol and I think that he will add real skill and experience to our coaching staff here at Lancashire, both from his playing days and first steps into coaching.

"With Will and Craig White alongside me, I am really pleased to have my coaching team finalised as we head off on pre-season tour this week before the season gets under way in April.

"Finally, I would also like to thank Carl Crowe for all of his efforts during our brief time working together here at Lancashire and I wish him all the best with his next steps."

Porterfield retired from playing in 2022 having been Ireland's longest-serving captain and their third most-capped player after making his debut in 2006.

He went on to join his former county Gloucestershire as a consultant coach and rejoins Benkenstein, who was appointed by the Red Rose in December.
