  1. South Africa post 312-9published at 15:45 BST 21 October

South Africa did not have the ideal start to their innings, losing Tazmin Brits for a duck in the second over, but came out swinging after the lengthy rain delay.

Laura Wolvaardt (90 off 82), Sune Luus (61 off 59), and Marizanne Kapp (68 off 43) all scored half-centuries while Nadine de Klerk blazed 41 (16) as the Proteas posted 312-9 from their 40 overs.

Pakistan have a highest total of 159 with the bat at this World Cup and have to win their two remaining matches to keep their semi-final hopes alive.

    This will take some chasing.

Back-to-back wickets for Pakistan. A direct hit gets rid of Nondumiso Shangase, who was too slow to set off for the single.

    De Klerk c Natalia b Sadia 41 (SA 305-7)

Natalia Pervaiz takes the catch at deep mid-wicket and Nadine de Klerk exits after a scintillating cameo.

She smashed 41 runs off just 16 deliveries, including four sixes.

Tryon st Nawaz b Sadia 21 (SA 253-6)

Oooooh that was tight. Chloe Tryon goes down on one knee, swings and misses, and is stumped by Sidra Nawaz. Replays show her foot was on the line but not behind it.

    Excellent work from the wicketkeeper.

Tryon should have been out earlier in the over, Diana Baig putting down a simple catch in the covers.

50 for Marizanne Kapppublished at 35.2 overs

    SA 245-5

Marizanne Kapp runs a single to bring up her half-century off 37 balls.

It's her second half-century of the tournament.

  7. SA 240-5published at 35 overs

    Kapp 45, Tryon 13

Any confidence Pakistan would have taken from those two quick wickets, including removing Laura Wolvaardt, is being eroded by Marizanne Kapp and Chloe Tryon.

They've put on 28 (24) for the sixth wicket.

Wolvaardt st Nawaz b Nashra 90 (SA 212-4)

What was I saying about a 10th ODI century?

Nashra Sandhu finally gets one to spin and it deceives Laura Wolvaardt, who had stepped down. Sidra Nawaz whips off the bails and the South Africa skipper is out for 90 (82).

You suspect, however, that the damage is already done.

  10. SA 210-3published at 30 overs

    Wolvaardt 89, Kapp 29

Laura Wolvaardt and Marizanne Kapp have put on 62 (50) for the fourth wicket for South Africa.

Skipper Wolvaardt is closing in on a 10th ODI century.

Pakistan, who have a high score of 159 with the bat at this World Cup, have a difficult chase on their hands. 200 has come and gone for South Africa and they still have 10 overs at their disposal.

  11. SA 164-3published at 25 overs

    Wolvaardt 70, Kapp 9

Pakistan have slowed the flow of runs a little, restricting South Africa to just two boundaries in the past five overs.

However, with 15 overs remaining and Laura Wolvaardt well set on 70 (63), the Proteas should be eyeing 260 or 270.

  12. wicket

    WICKETpublished at 21.5 overs

    Dercksen run out (Fatima/Shamim) 9 (SA 148-3)

Excellent fielding from Fatima Sana, getting a pinpoint throw into the bowler from mid-wicket. The bails are whipped off and Annerie Dercksen has to depart for nine.

She hit that straight to the fielder and didn't need to go for such a risky single with Laura Wolvaardt flying at the other end.

South Africa are three down but with Marizanne Kapp walking out and Chloe Tryon and Nadine de Klerk still to come, they won't be panicking.

  13. SA 139-2published at 20 overs

    Wolvaardt 56, Dercksen 7

Halfway through the first innings in this rain-shortened 40 overs per side match and South Africa are scoring pretty freely. They're going at a shade under seven an over.

Laura Wolvaardt has 56 (46) while Annerie Dercksen has 7 (12).

  14. 50 runs

50 for Laura Wolvaardtpublished at 17.4 overs

    SA 129-2

A hideous misfield gifts Laura Wolvaardt the boundary which takes her to her half-century - her third of the tournament and the 47th 50+ knock of her ODI career.

She has 53 off 42 deliveries.

Sune Luus boundary-fest comes to an end, picking out Diana Baig at extra cover off Nashra Sandhu.

She departs for 61 off 59, including eight fours and two sixes.

Luus and Laura Wolvaardt put on 118 (93) for the second wicket.

    SA 112-1

Sune Luus reverse sweeps Sadia Iqbal for four to bring up her half-century off 55 deliveries.

    She's flying.

  17. SA 105-1published at 15 overs

    Wolvaardt 46, Luus 47

Rain is falling in Colombo and has been for several overs but the umpires are keeping the players out there.

South Africa won't mind. They are cruising.

Sune Luus took 12 balls to get off the mark but has accelerated to 47 (50) while Laura Wolvaardt has 46 (37). They've struck a combined 15 boundaries, including two sixes for Luus, and are enjoying themselves against Pakistan's spinners.

  18. SA 53-1published at 8 overs

    Wolvaardt 26, Luus 16

That's all for the powerplay in this rain-reduced affair and South Africa will be the happier of the two sides.

After losing Tazmin Brits for a duck in the second over, they've settled nicely since the rain delay, with Laura Wolvaardt looking fluid for her 26 (22).

Sune Luus, in at number three, is dealing almost exclusively in boundaries. She's smacked a sumptuous six over mid-wicket and two fours in her 16 (23).

As for Pakistan, Fatima Sana, who picked up the wicket of Brits, is getting the ball to shape away from the batters but on the whole, the bowlers are yet to find their line. They've already gifted South Africa 11 extras.

  19. Play restarts - SA 6-1published at 12:59 BST 21 October

South Africa are 6-1 heading into the third over, with Sadia Iqbal bowling.

  20. Play to resume at 13:00 BSTpublished at 12:56 BST 21 October

Fingers crossed that's the last we see of the rain.

Play will resume at 13:00 BST, with the match reduced to 40 overs per side.

The powerplay will be eight overs.
